Tina and her Pony @ Riverside Drive
Born and raised on the banks of the Ohio, where she studied opera at Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory, Tina Collins roams a heritage of American folk music as vast as the landscapes envisioned in her songs. Her aptly titled solo album, “Journey Onward” (2009), takes the listener on a quest, with her clear, soulfully strong vocals leading the way. She is often compared vocally to Alison Krauss, Joni Mitchell and Kate Wolf. Tina counts through-hiking the Appalachian Trail as a formative musical and human experience, deepening her connection to that place and and to the song-stories of those hills. Her earthy, time-honored approach to songwriting was honed while walking, with the soft, steady sounds of breath and footsteps as the only rhythmic backdrop to her vocal musings. The result is a comforting simplicity that echoes bluegrass and old-time melodies. Tina Collins is the front woman of the acclaimed indie folk band “Tina & Her Pony” and she has toured extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, sharing stages with Dar Williams, Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutters, Rising Appalachia, Elephant Revival, Edie Carey and Girlyman.
