The Next Chapter: Ginger’s Revenge Cans Are Now Shelf Stable!

Earlier this year, we shared the exciting news that Ginger’s Revenge was making the transition from bottles to cans – a change that represented much more than new packaging. It marked the beginning of an important investment in the future of our company and our mission to bring craft hard ginger beer to more people. At the time, we hinted that there was another milestone on the horizon, and we’re excited to now share it.

Ginger’s Revenge Hard Ginger Beer is now officially shelf stable!

When we opened in 2017 and for our first nine years in business, we’ve required cold chain storage on our products. For those of you that have visited our Tasting Room in Asheville and bought beer to go, you were most likely instructed by members of our team to keep the beer cold on your journey home. At the grocery store this means that our back stock was often stored in the dairy cooler!

While our new shelf stable cans have been on shelves for several months, we’ve intentionally waited to make this announcement. We wanted to be absolutely certain that the product you enjoy today would meet the same standards of quality, flavor, and consistency you’ve come to expect from us.

Solving the Challenge Without Compromise

From the very beginning, we knew one thing: we weren’t willing to achieve shelf stability by adding preservatives. As more people become aware of ingredient sensitivities, it was important to us to find a solution that stayed true to our philosophy of crafting beverages with thoughtfully sourced ingredients and simple, recognizable ingredients. That meant investing in a different approach.

Earlier this year, we installed a tunnel pasteurizer, a piece of equipment that gently heats each can after it’s filled to eliminate spoilage microorganisms. In simple terms, this process allows our hard ginger beer to remain shelf stable without the use of preservatives while preserving the quality and flavor you’ve come to expect. Many beverage brands achieve shelf stability by relying on preservatives or other stabilizing ingredients. We chose a different path.

It’s a significant investment for a small independent brewery, but one we believed was worth making.

Why We Waited

Installing the equipment was only the beginning. Over the past several months, we’ve been carefully monitoring and validating every aspect of the finished product. Only after completing extensive quality testing do we feel ready to officially share the news. That extra time reflects something that’s always been important to us: when we make changes, we want to make sure they’re improvements – improvements in quality, in sustainability, and that they have staying power.

What This Means for You

The best part about this milestone is that it makes Ginger’s Revenge easier to enjoy – without changing what’s inside the can. Now you can:

  • Stock up without maxing out the space in your refrigerator! Keep a few cans in the pantry and chill them whenever you’re ready.
  • Pack Ginger’s Revenge for your next adventure. Whether you’re headed to the beach, the mountains, a campsite, or a backyard gathering, it’s easier to take along.
  • Share it with friends and family. Shelf stable cans make gifting and bringing Ginger’s Revenge to parties and celebrations even more convenient.
  • Ship it throughout North Carolina! We’ve brought back Direct-to-Consumer beer shipping in NC since it is now easier to ship in shelf stable cans.

This milestone is about much more than shelf stability. It’s about creating more opportunities to enjoy Ginger’s Revenge. As we continue to grow, every decision we make comes back to one goal: making it easier for more people to discover and enjoy craft hard ginger beer without compromising the quality that got us here.

Thank you for being part of this journey!

Cheers,
